For quite some time I have had a bit of a man crush on Simon Sinek. I've probably watched his "Start with Why" Puget Sound Ted Talk a zillion times. With a smooth delivery and meaningful, well thought message, he immediately captured my attention. If you haven't watched his original Ted Talk (its one of the highest ranking talks of all time on Ted.com) then you need to get on over there and be the 17, 088,870th person to watch it. If you run a business - this is must watch Ted Talk TV!
He so eloquently describes why the Wright brothers, Apple and Martin Luther King Jr succeeded while others with more resources, time and money failed - and how most companies have their marketing minds screwed on backwards. It really is a brilliant talk and one that every business person should watch in my opinion.
Which brings me to his most current video, shot just this past March 2014. Simon leverages stories that we can all relate to in order to convey what he discovered for himself about true leadership. His talk is very frank and personal - not in a gushy kind of way but in a very matter of fact, "this is what I just found out" prose.
Leaders - who are they and what makes a true leader stand above other "nominal" authoritarian leaders. This is his question.
