So this is Yahoo's new logo.
I kinda like it. Here is why.
Marissa Mayer is trying to reinvigorate a company that at one time was the search champion of the internet. In my experience, I've seen a few CEOs come in and promptly (sometimes as part of their 100 day plans) have make their mark on the company by stating their new corporate direction non verbally. Usually with a new logo. This is a sign from Marissa. Yahoo is not the old stodgy Yahoo. They're the company that is driving users to their portal through well curated content and improved search dynamics. They're striving for clean and fresh. I think their new logo is just slightly off the mark - almost but not quite there.
I've always been a fan of clean and simple design. Check out one of my favourite designers, Aaron Draplin (www.draplin.com). I think they've done a nice job with this one. They've kept the colour scheme, added a little bevel to the lettering and even provided some animation to their exclamation point. Good job Yahoo - but not great.
Visit www.yahoo.com/dailylogo and you'll see some other contenders that their in house design team came up with. My preference would have been the eventual winner (above) or the Day 1 logo. Day 1 logo had some more playfulness with it that I think lends better to what I think Marissa is going for. More vibrance, more youthfulness, more freshness. This one is almost all there....just get rid of that bevel.
Anyway - what do you think? Let me know below - I'm curious!
